A character from Offencbach's Tales of Hoffman.
The eccentric scholar hopes that his latest invention, a mechanical doll, will bring him money.
This doll named"OLYMPIA", is admired by all, it sings and dances like an angel. The poet Hoffman falls in love with it. He is seduced by this marvel which performs in a series of vocalizations until the spring that animates it exhausts.
After a turn of key and ... some ducats in its hand, the doll comes to life again until Hoffman discovers that his beloved was none other than an automaton.
The poet remains alone, facing his destiny as an artist.
